Comprehensive metabolomic and lipoprotein profiling
AIT has a strong partnership with lifespin® and lifespin’s NMR – technology for targeted high-throughput metabolomic and lipoprotein analysis and acts as service provider, supporting customers from experimental planning & study design to pre-analytics processing and standardisation, sample analysis, bioinformatic data analysis, visualisation and interpretation.
A range of assay formats enables your metabolomics analysis at different scale for several sample types and various applications.
Having a broad technology portfolio including lifespin® technology, AIT-Molecular Diagnostics offers also multi-omics analysis.
AIT is ISO9001 certified and have been qualified by lifespin to provide services based on lifespin® technology.

lifespin® Metabolomic and Lipoprotein profiling – technology
lifespin® technology is based on the detection of biomarkers using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) in biofluids.
1D-1H NMR at state-of-the-art 600 MHz machines ist used to measure the free concentrations of small metabolites and lipoprotein particles. Sample preparation is highly robust and efficient and measurement time is below 10 minutes. The method is quantitative by nature and only one internal standard is needed for all subtance classes addressed.
The resulting complex raw data are deconvoluted and the free concentrations of all identified small metabolites are quanitified in a range from approx 1 µM to 100 mM. In addition lipoprotein particle concentrations, particel sizes and concentration of components (cholesterol, triglycerides etc.) are quantified for main and subclasses.
Each individual sample is quality checked for preanalytical, logistical and analytical influences, e.g. inter-serial check based on certified reference material for internal standard concentration and integral.
Thus, within a few minutes more than 200 parameters are quantified per blood sample and a comprehensive report is provided.
Advanced data analysis is possible, depending on the project setting, in the contex t of lifespin’s database. E.g. stratified reference ranges, biostatistical analysis, descriptive analysis and correlation or classification approaches.

Sample sending and (pre-)processing
Usually serum or plasma (EDTA, heparin, citrate) samples as indicated in the specific tests can be processed without any specific requirements. Recommendations on blood-draw and pre-processing parameters are described in „lifespin sampling instructions“ (for download).
In certain cases and upon request AIT can offer pre-processing like aliquoting samples for specific project settings. These requirements should be defined and considered in advance.
Other biofluids and respective customized and matrix dependent parameter lists are possible upon request.
Sample sending: sample-volume 500µl in Eppendorf tubes or equivalent (tightly closed / clear identifier, suitable for -80°C), send on dry ice.
Sample list including identifier and necessary meta information has to be defined according to the experiment and provided via email. Provide the reference number of the offer in the respective field.
